Okay heres the one thing that will make Linux more popular by a huge amount - when microsoft manages to stop all piracy of its OS people will look for other free alternatives.

Some others are if we get a large games company to start releasing games on linux and stop releasing games on windows os.When they start a huge marketing campaign to the uneducated masses and get linux pc`s into schools so people experience something else apart from windows.

Alternatively leave it alone because I like fixing crappy windows PC`s for a living and secretly laughing at people who pay for software that is absolute sh1t.

What made me ask the question was the simple fact that Linux has failed to establish itself as credible on the desktop for many years. It's still strugglin, but it may be changing. I gotta ask the question; what part of 1% market share confuses you?

I gotta ask what would make you ask this question...its been years since windows held a reasonable spot (greater than 5%) on this list:
http://www.top500.org/list/2008/11/100

Not to mention that Windows has been steadily losing market share in corporate servers since 2000 and no new company in their right mind would use it for anything except possibly exchange/e-mail.

I suppose if this was specifically referencing desktops it might be a reasonable question, but even my grandpa uses Ubuntu. Then again he has Alzheimers so he needs something that is easy and consistent day in and day out.

Actually there where more vendors before Everex. Smaller companies such as System76 have been around for a while. But if your looking for bigger companies, Dell had offered Ubuntu before the Everex PC was even announced. Just thought I'd clarify that.
