IT Trends
As the world moves forward, the technologies of the past will gradually be integrated into the technologies of the day. In doing so they will be transformed and become “something else”. The upshot will be that the businesses of the past will have to rethink themselves or disappear forever like the dinosaurs.
And the swift little mammals that supersede them, that eat their breakfast, their lunch and their dinner – why, they will be the innovators and the integrators.
Postings classified under Trends fall under one of the following headings:
The Focus Series: These focus on specific topic areas. Currently they are:
Virtualization
SOA
Telephony/Communications Integration
Forecasts
Where I guess or suggest what I expect to happen at some point in the future – kinda like an economist.
Driving Trends
Where I’m specifically following a developing situation, e.g. the progress of Moore’s Law.
Battle of the Giants
Very large vendors (IBM, Microsoft, HP, Dell, Cisco, Apple, Google, etc.) vie for control of the IT industry, or at least large chunks of it. This set of postings relates to contests between such vendors.
Commentary
Where I simply comment on the news, but the comment is long enough to constitute an article rather than a passing remark. This is really a grab-bucket for “everything else”, although the reason for the posting will usually relate to some kind of trend or other.
Technology & Science For Its Own Sake
These are postings that deal with non-IT technology, that I feel obliged to report on.
